Chamber outing to Petite Opera! See Petite Opera’s original spooferetta, “Al Fresco – Life through Opera-Colored Glasses!” Petite Opera is professional opera right in our backyard.
Experience the comical adventures of our favorite lovable geek, Al Fresco, an Italian-American from Chicago, as he looks for love with modern-day versions of famous opera heroines. An original story and English lyrics set to Sullivan, Mozart, Puccini and others. Written by Petite Opera’s board members, who are also Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce members, this delightful operetta will have you laughing all night long as it pokes fun at some common—and not so common—characters from Chicago and its surrounding communities. It is fun and appropriate for all ages. Absolutely no knowledge of opera is necessary. No opera heroines will die as a result of this production, and you can leave your tiaras and tuxedos at home.
The nine performance dates:
Fridays May 6, 13, and 20 at 7:30 PM,
Saturdays May 7, 14, and 21at 7:30 PM,
Sundays May 8, 15 and 22 at 4:00 PM.
Performances at Mary Wilson House Beyer Auditorium, part of St Mary’s Episcopal Church campus, at 306 S Prospect Ave (at Crescent Ave).
Tickets prices are $25 for Adults, $22 for Seniors (age 62 and up), $15 for Students (K-college), and Kids age 5 and under get in free. Groups of 10 or more adults who purchase in one transaction for the same performance get a 20% discount over Adult ticket prices, so let’s gather a couple of groups at a minimum! Why not make a night of it?

Chamber outing to Petite Opera!
For the Chamber’s next group theatre outing, let’s all go see Petite Opera’s original spooferetta, “Al Fresco – Life through Opera-Colored Glasses!” Petite Opera is professional opera right in our backyard.
Opera meets improvisation in this entertaining spoof.

Enjoy wonderful art and meet the artist, with a question and answer session at 5:30. This event is free and open to the public.

Brian's photographs express the common drama found in five subjects; Altars/Spiritual Drama, Columns/Daily Drama, Graffiti/Subversive Drama, Museums/Cultural Drama, and Telephones/I.T. Drama. Separately, each subject represents a common visual experience encountered everyday. These photographs reveal a thread of subtle drama added through unusual attention given to unremarkable details. Gail's Weekly Chamber UPDATE

Can you believe the snow on the ground this morning? What a shocker to wake up to! My weekend was filled with StageCoach Theatre, Ice Show at Oakton and Newcomers Kid Sale – all 3 are Chamber members!

Also, I saw that Gleeday.com is offering up Home Comfort Heating and Cooling – a great deal! And both are also Chamber members! Deal ends this Wednesday.

There are still some tickets available for the Cubs game next week at just $18!

The Chamber board meets tomorrow and I’m presenting 17 new members for approval! It’s my personal best! 

Thank you to everyone who has paid their 2011 dues. You’ll be in the Park Ridge Community Guide.

Those that have not paid their 2011 dues will be removed from the community guide.

If you have any questions about whether or not you’ve paid, please email me and I’ll check for you.

Dues were due by January 1, 2011.
Thank you to Dino and Dave for hosting the wonderful lunch at the beautiful and historic Pickwick Theatre last week. We got to hear about the extensive remodeling that will be done and also heard from two new Chamber members who are tenants – Ether Cycle and Chiropractor John Klimediotis.

The Pickwick building restaurants served up the lunch – Cream of the Crepe, Pickwick Restaurant, and Lisa’s Homemade Italian Ice were the participating Chamber members.

And thank you for the donations to the Park Ridge Community Fund! The Maine South High School Photography Club’s Give Back program donated beautiful scenes around Park Ridge for sale as magnets, greeting cards and matted photos with the profits going to the Park Ridge Community fund. We have the items here at the Chamber and are selling them for $1 (magnets), $2 (cards), and $10 for matted photos. Please come and take a look!

Stick Up for the Arts! Stick Up for the Arts!

The week of April 18th is the beginning of vehicle sticker sales in the City of Park Ridge.

Included in the notice you will receive in the mail from the City will be a request to participate in support of the many cultural organizations in the City that you enjoy. In prior years, the City has used your tax dollar to make contributions of financial support to these groups but we too are affected by the declining economy and can no longer afford these contributions at the expense of funding other public services.

For a $10 contribution towards these Cultural organizations, you will receive a sticker that you can proudly display in your vehicle, a window next to your front door or any location that will remind you and those that see that sticker, that you understand the importance of Friday symphony concerts in Hodge’s Park, Brickton Center Art classes, Kalo silver displays and the Historic Society’s collection of Park Ridge Historical photos and documents.

By adding just $10 to the amount of the check you write the City for your vehicle stickers, we will see that these funds are directed to the continuation of the many activities that contribute to the character of our Community.

I know that the Mayor and Aldermen join me and encourage your participation in support of these worthwhile causes.

Sports lenses protect the wearer’s eyes. Sports goggles with polycarbonate lenses and side shields should be worn when participating in racquetball, tennis, and soccer. Sports such as tennis, baseball, softball, and racquetball may see ball speeds of 90 mph or more. In baseball alone, there are over 500,000 injuries per year! But that is not the most common cause of sports-related eye injuries.

Most eye injuries occur in basketball, where an elbow or a finger jabbed into the eye can cause corneal abrasions, fractured bones, retinal detachments, or even blindness. Polycarbonate lenses are more resistant to impact than glass or plastic and offer protection for 90% of eye injuries. Protective eyewear fits well, features a padded bridge, has prescription or non-prescription lenses, and has deep-grooved eyewires to prevent the lens from falling out. You'll notice that these glasses seem to fit snugly and look smaller than traditional glasses.

Sports Eyewear

Each Tuesday evening during the month of April, catch Park Ridge Chamber members Susan Baushke and Steven Arvanites of Petite Opera Productions on ATT Uverse!
“Stand By with Marie Conenna” airs every Tuesday evening during April (Apr 19, 26) at 7:30 PM. It will air on local cable station 19 in Highland Park, Deerfield and Winnetka, but ATT Uverse customers can also find it on their viewing guide.

Chamber Member Update 4/4/11

April 4, 2011 Weekly Chamber Update From Gail, I just flew in this morning from a whirlwind weekend in Niagara Falls! It was breathtaking! Thank you to Dr. Dorothy Anasinski, Periodontics of Niles (847.685.6686) and Dan O’Brien, North South Masonry & Tuckpointing Inc. (847.384.0917) for signing up as Platinum this week! We scrounged up a few more Cubs tickets so let me know asap if you’re interested. Last I heard from Rick Pucci, we had about 10 more to sell. Last Week On Thursday evening, we had the aldermanic candidates here at the Nonprofit Center, 720 Garden, for a couple hours so they could meet and greet their constituents. It was nice to meet each of them. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow! In the picture left to right, is me, Jim Capparelli and Rosemary Sajovic from the Journal and Dick Barton, Barton & Barton. Thanks to the Journal for co-hosting the event with the Chamber. Northwestern Game? Rick Pucci organizes our Fundraising games for the Chamber and told me that our prices have changed for the Northwestern game this year. We may not be able to do it although last year we could have sold twice as many tickets as we had allotted for! In 2010, we charged $26 but this year the price will be $40 for the same game and events. Let me know if you’re interested because if we don’t get enough takers at $40, then we’re not going to do it. Do you want to be on the Electronics Recycling Coupon On April 30, we’re holding the Electronics Recycling Event with the City and the Park District. The Chamber charges $5 per car and then gives the driver a $5 coupon good towards a minimum $20 purchase with Chamber members whose names are listed on the back side of the coupon. So far, I have Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Park Ridge Paint, WineStyles and Lisa’s Homemade Italian Ice. If you want your name on the coupon, please let me know asap. When you receive the coupons, highlight your name on the back and then turn them into the Chamber and I’ll do a drawing for a free ad in the newsletter. There is no charge for this! It’s all part of the ‘Shop local’ campaign. Thank you for… Did you know that if you refer a business to join the Chamber and they mention your name as having referred them, that you get a Chamber gift certificate for $10? I want to thank: • Rick Pucci, Park Ridge Financial Advisors, for referring Des Plaines Elks Lodge • Tracy Bell, WineStyles, for referring Linda Russo AND On View • Dino Vlahakis, Pickwick Theatre, for referring Chiropractor John Klimediotis • Alexander Barton, Barton & Barton, for referring Rodan & Fields Dermatologists • Dick Barton, Barton & Barton, for referring WOW – Wide Open West • Diane Forsythe, ABI Mortgage, for referral of United Alarms Inc. • Elaine Bonacci, 2 Sisters, for referring Linda Russo • Dr. Niki Laskaris, Dentist, for referring Fencing Center of Chicago • Nichole Squires, Comfort Inn O’Hare, and Marko Ratic, Express Auto, for referring Like New Auto Spa The best advertising is word of mouth and I appreciate all your efforts on behalf of the Chamber! Shop Local Buy Local Think Local First Please make it a point to spend your money in town. Of course, my desire is that you shop Chamber members first! But for our small city of 38,000 to be vibrant and thriving, we need to keep more of our money in Park Ridge. Think Local First. Shop Park Ridge. Every taxable dollar spent in Park Ridge benefits important City-provided services like police and fire, library, street maintenance, street lights and parks. Sales tax generated from Park Ridge transactions stays in Park Ridge and contributes to the quality of life we all enjoy. Don’t forget that the Chamber sells Chamber Gift Certificates in any denomination. Any merchant can bring them to the Chamber and receive a check for full face value. So when you’re looking for a gift for your employees, co-workers, teachers coaches, scout leaders, think about giving Chamber gift certificates. Categories of Chamber Members I just wanted to point out all the various categories that our Chamber members fall into.
