Gail's Monday Chamber UPDATE - February 9, 2009

Although Puxatawny Pete’s shadow indicated 6 more weeks of winter, it sure has felt like spring this past week! Hope you got outside to enjoy it!

I was a judge last week for DECA, an ‘international association of high school and college students studying marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service.’ Both Maine South and Maine East High Schools participated. It was interesting and they’re always looking for judges so please think about judging.

Rehearsals for ‘Run Forest Run’ continue at Washington School. Tickets are $8.

Chocolate & Champagne

Networking

Another Hit!
The Chocolate & Champagne Multi-Chamber Networking event last Thursday at the Northbrook Hilton was a FABULOUS success! There were almost 60 booths sold and more than 200 attendees came through. It smelled like chocolate throughout the halls! The wine and champagne flowed – and speaking of flowing, there were 2 chocolate fountains! We had a great showing from our Chamber with 25 of our members participating!

Jason’s Deli
Jason’s Deli is open! They are located in the new development in Uptown Park Ridge. There is plenty of parking in the underground garage. The ribbon cutting with Mayor Frimark had a good turnout and the luncheon afterwards was delicious! They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and will cater events too.

Feb 18 Educational Workshop at the Library
Workshops! Look for more educational workshops this year!

The first for 2009 is on ‘Preparing Your 2008 Taxes – Finding Opportunities and Reducing Risk With Your Individual Return.’

It will be held Wednesday, Feb. 18, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Park Ridge Public Library Meeting Room on the 1st floor. Seating is limited. RSVP to the Chamber.

February Business After Hours: The Bethany Terrace
The February Business After Hours will be held at The Bethany Terrace, 8425 N. Waukegan Road, Morton Grove. They will also be accepting coats for the homeless.

Please plan to attend and network. This event is included in your annual dues at no additional charge! RSVP to the Chamber so they know how many to expect.

2009 Chamber Events
The Chamber is starting to plan events for the rest of the year – electronics recycling, golf outing, Winterfest, and more. Are you interested in being on any of the Committees? Did you want to get more involved in activities to get your business out there in front of people and get to know more people? Would you like to see more events or different events? Let me know. How about marching in the Memorial Day Parade as a Chamber?

Winterfest!
The Winterfest planning begins this Thursday, 2/12, at the Chamber at 2 p.m. If you’re interested in participating and helping to plan the festivities for the day after Thanksgiving, let me know. Everyone and all ideas are welcomed!

Want to be listed in the 2009 Community Guide?
We’re working with Pioneer Press to publish the Chamber’s Community Guide. Members who have paid 2009 dues by February 18, which is next week, will be included in the guide.

The Chamber annual dues did not go up and has not changed in several years.

Platinum members will be on the front cover! It’s only $300 more to upgrade to Platinum and it includes 8 lunches! It’s the best value in town!

Do you offer Chamber Member Discounts?
Chamber membership has its rewards. As a current member of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce, you can promote your business to other Chamber members through your participation in our Member to Member Discount Program. Here‘s the way it works. You list your business as a participating member at no cost to you, specifying what discount you are making available to other Chamber members and their employees as well as any restrictions. As an example, a restaurant may offer 10% off, or a free dessert with lunch or dinner, or a complimentary dessert with the purchase of two or more entrees; a bank may offer a free box of complimentary checks and a safe deposit box for new business and/or personal accounts; an accounting firm may offer a 10% discount for new clients, etc. We publish your offer to the entire Chamber membership and other business owners and their employees to use your products and services. You acquire new business, and they get a break when using your products or services.

We only need to know that you will participate and what your discount and restrictions, if any, will be.

Cell Phones for Soldiers
We shipped 93 more phones last week for Cell Phones for Soldiers – that makes 204 cell phones! Thank you to District 64 Green Teams that encouraged the students to participate! For every cell phone donated, a 60 minute phone card is sent to a soldier overseas so he/she can call home for an hour. That’s 204 soldiers and their families that benefitted! Check out www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com for more information. It sure feels good to do this for our military personnel and their families, doesn’t it!

Member News

I had lunch at Hay Caramba! last week with Josh Granum from the McTigue Financial Group, who recently joined and upgraded to Platinum status. Josh was impressed with Hay Caramba! and said he’ll definitely go back!

We’ve received many phone calls from residents about Bailey’s Restaurant which closed last week.

Other Members I visited last week: Brickton Mortgage (Diane Forsythe); A Sterling Design (Diddy Blyth); Janus Premiums (Cathy Janus); Oakton Ice Rink; Park Ridge Library; District 64 (Washington); Hay Caramba!; Jason’s Deli; No ‘e’ Disign (Suzann Wilson); Higher Level Wellness (Susan Frangos).

Beatles Night!

March 6 & 7
Park Ridge Community Church (PRCC) will be hosting its Sixth Annual Beatles Nights on March 6th & 7th at 7pm. Beatles Night has become a great tradition bringing together some of the best local musicians in the area to play Beatles tunes. This event has been a huge success, with mostly sold-out shows (about 250 people per night). It has also been successful because all proceeds support the PRCC Youth Ministry Fund, which supports various local outreach programs, youth events and youth mission trips.

We invite you to be a part of Beatles Nights by considering an advertising sponsorship for the event. Your business will be advertised in the program for this well attended event.

We also welcome contributions of Beatles related items or merchandise (CD’s, DVD’s, books, posters, games, music, etc.) which will be raffled off during the evening’s performances.

If you have questions, please contact Tricia Williams or Jane Meagher 847-696-4466.
