Chamber MEMBER News

A Note From Gail

Several Chamber members are receiving an email with the subject “2012 city of Park Ridge Family First Campaign!!!” It has nothing to do with the City or the Chamber and any money made from advertising does not stay here in Park Ridge. It’s a for-profit company that looks like its from or benefiting the City but it isn’t.

Be safe out there today – it’s a snowy day!

The Summit of Uptown Summit Legendary Entertainers Program Spotlights Ray Charles
Ray Charles, an American musician who was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s will come to life in “Meet Legendary Entertainers with Jack Diamond” in the monthly musical program scheduled for Friday, March. 9 at 1:30 p.m., at The Summit of Uptown, 10 N. Summit (at Touhy) in Park Ridge. There is no charge for this program.

Diamond, a regular presenter at The Summit for almost 20 years, will trace the artist’s life and feature his music which fused rhythm and blues and gospel into his early recordings. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums. While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. Frank Sinatra called Charles “the only true genius in show business.”

For further information or reservations—which are required by Monday, March 5—call 847-825-1161, ext. 129. Light refreshments will be served. Those who attend are eligible for the Summit Guest Rewards Program which offers opportunities to earn rewards and prizes such as lunch or brunch for two at Summit, or VISA gift cards.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay late for tours of the newly renovated retirement community. Parking is available in the City’s central parking lot and the Uptown lot across the street. For a list of other entertaining events at Summit, visit www.summitofuptown.com.
