SCORE Consulting
We’ve booked the 18 appointments for SBA’s SCORE free consulting through April – so we can start booking for May. Everyone who has met with the counselors have said wonderful things about them so don’t feel intimidated – they’ll discuss any aspect of your business without judgment. All they want to do is help, counsel, and guide but you have to ask for it. 1st and 3rd Tuesdays right now until we get SCORE convinced that Park Ridge has a need. I’d love to have them in weekly with standard hours that you could book through their website. Check it out: http://www.scorechicago.org/

SCORE Chicago provides free business counseling, management consulting, and low cost workshops. We advise on how to get a business loan and offer other resources like templates for a business plan. SCORE counselors can help the entrepreneur start a business or a small business owner grow and prosper. The organization has more than 25 locations in the Chicago area. We also counsel by email nationwide.
SCORE - Counselors to America's Small Business - is a nonprofit association dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business in the US. We are also known as the SCORE Association.

The Summit of Uptown Summit Legendary Entertainers Program Spotlights Ray Charles
Ray Charles, an American musician who was a pioneer in the genre of soul music during the 1950s will come to life in “Meet Legendary Entertainers with Jack Diamond” in the monthly musical program scheduled for Friday, March. 9 at 1:30 p.m., at The Summit of Uptown, 10 N. Summit (at Touhy) in Park Ridge. There is no charge for this program.

Diamond, a regular presenter at The Summit for almost 20 years, will trace the artist’s life and feature his music which fused rhythm and blues and gospel into his early recordings. He also helped racially integrate country and pop music during the 1960s with his crossover success on ABC Records, most notably with his Modern Sounds albums. While with ABC, Charles became one of the first African-American musicians to be given artistic control by a mainstream record company. Frank Sinatra called Charles “the only true genius in show business.”

For further information or reservations—which are required by Monday, March 5—call 847-825-1161, ext. 129. Light refreshments will be served. Those who attend are eligible for the Summit Guest Rewards Program which offers opportunities to earn rewards and prizes such as lunch or brunch for two at Summit, or VISA gift cards.

Gail's Weekly Chamber UPDATE

We are in need of writers for the Chamber’s monthly newsletter. If you like to write, or if you want to have an educational piece in the Chamber newsletter, we can use your talents. When you attend events, we’d love to have you write about it. Martha Berns, Dempsey Design, does all the graphics for the newsletter. Joshua Nichols, Unbound Technology, is the editor. Mary Wynn Ryan, Winning Ways Marketing, does much of the editing. Diddy Blyth, A Sterling Design, takes most of the pictures. Thank you to a great newsletter crew! But we still need more! Also, the next one will be the last one to be mailed out which will save the Chamber more than $3,000 in postage costs.

Also, we haven’t had anyone sign up for our SCORE counseling sessions tomorrow from 9 to noon (hour long appointments). Email me if you want to discuss anything about your business – that’s what they’re here for.

How to Sell to Anyone!
We all have those difficult customers to whom we are required to sell. From the demanding, abrasive buyer to the individual who never seems to make a buying decision, we encounter challenging people on a regular basis. Part of the reason this happens is due to the disconnect we have because of conflicting personalities.
During this presentation, we will look at the four key types of people and how to increase your sales when selling to each person. Sharpen your sales skills and learn how to increase your sales ability!
