Gail's Weekly Chamber UPDATE

I’m going to UIUC this weekend for Moms’ Weekend to see Dirk (who is graduating next month and in the market for a job in Aerospace Engineering).
And Lian and I rode our bikes yesterday for a few miles, played ball, and I took her ice skating. I also had a few ladies over for knitting on Saturday evening so it was a full and fun weekend – hope your’s was too!
From the City of Park Ridge:
In light of the tragic plane crash which killed Polish President Lech Kaczynski and many other leaders of the Polish government and business community, and out of respect for the thousands of Park Ridge residents who are of Polish heritage, Mayor Dave Schmidt ordered on Sunday that the City’s flag be flown at half mast through Saturday, April 17, the day of President Kaczynski’s funeral. Mayor Schmidt also declared that the City will observe an official period of mourning for the victims of the disaster through that date. The American flag will remain at full mast until President Obama orders otherwise.

We have all the tickets for the May 14th Cubs vs Pirates game (here at the Chamber) so stop by and pick up your tickets.
Because we sold out for that game, we got another offer for Wednesday, May 12, against the Florida Marlins at 1:20 – just $15 per ticket!
Park Ridge Chamber’s member, Ben Wilson, Falkor Group, moderated the monthly Microsoft Tech Forum hosted by the Chamber on Thursday, April 8, to a crowd of almost 30! A full service IT consultancy, Falkor provides business with options to understand how technology can help improve office productivity and systems reliability.
Attendees at the TechForum received a firsthand look at how Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2008, Windows 7 Professional, Office Small Business 2007 work together to help the business save time, get organized, stay productive anywhere, and protect data to enable the business to spend more time growing the business.
Microsoft reps were on hand to answer questions as were several IT firms, including partners from the Falkor Group. Microsoft donated a camera, Visio software, and an xbox 360 Platinum game for the business card raffle.
The continental breakfast was catered by All on the Road Catering & Bakery. Event attendees may be eligible to receive up to $600.00* to be used towards deployment services from a Microsoft partner of choice to assist with installation when used in conjunction with a purchase of Windows Small Business Server 2008, Windows 7 Professional, and/or Office Small Business 2007.

Ok, I’m still pushing the Red Geraniums because it is the OFFICIAL flower of Park Ridge!

Will you buy a flat of red geraniums from the Chamber? Let me know as I’d like to get as many orders as possible before placing an order. I may not place an order if I don’t get a good pre-sale since I don’t want to be stuck with lots of flats that I have to tend to.

Especially since this is the City’s 100 year anniversary of being the City of Park Ridge and it’s the 50th year of the City’s flag.

By the way, did you know that 2011 is the Chamber’s 75th Anniversary? Don’t I get diamonds for that???

Here are some more ideas that need a champion:

1. A Legislative Forum
2. A Health Care Forum
3. A Community Garden which would be for the entire community of Park Ridge – the owner of the empty lot across from Jewel gave tentative approval!
4. St. Paul of the Cross Sunday Night Suppers – volunteering to make and/or serve meals for 100 hungry people?

3rd Annual North Shore Women’s Conference – A Great Opportunity for Your Business!
