September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
A library card packs a lot of power in a little package. And during National Library Card Sign-Up Month, we'd like to show you why it really is the smartest card you can carry in your wallet.

Be sure to visit us at TribLocal.com (http://triblocal.com/park-ridge/) every day as we show you "30 Days/30 Ways to Use Your Library Card." We'll tell you about online materials you may never have heard about, special services we offer, new programs for children, and much, much more.

You'll learn about valuable resources for jobseekers, small business owners, students and patrons with disabilities. We'll tell you how your Park Ridge card lets you access premium online resources for research, downloadable books and music, children’s activities and other materials through our website 24/7.

If you haven't visited us recently, we hope you'll stop by soon to see for yourself why we're an award-winning library. And while you’re there be sure to show your library card at the Circulation Desk for a chance to win a Nook Simple Touch eReader! You must show your own, current card to enter.

Don’t have a card yet or need to renew? Stop by the Circulation Desk with documentation of Park Ridge residency (i.e., driver’s license, or two pieces of recently postmarked mail along with a photo i.d.) and we’ll give you a new one in just a few minutes.

For more information on Library Card Sign-Up Month or getting a card, please call 847-825-3123 or visit us at www.parkridgelibrary.org

Oakton to Provide Early Look at Manpower Survey Results
Join Oakton Community College for an early look at Manpower Employment Outlook Survey results for the fourth quarter of 2011 on Tuesday, September 27 from 8 – 10 a.m. Oakton's partnership with ManpowerGroup, a world leader in innovative workforce solutions, gives the College unique access to one of the most trusted sources of employment activity in the world.
Conducted quarterly for more than 45 years, ManpowerGroup’s survey measures employers’ intentions to increase or decrease the number of employees in their workforces during the next quarter. Unparalleled in its size, scope, longevity, and area of focus, the survey’s successful track record is based on several factors.
ManpowerGroup carries out its survey with an unbiased, representative sample of more than 63,000 public and private employers across 39 countries and territories to forecast employment over the next quarter. That means analysis can be performed across a wide range of specific sectors and regions to provide more detailed data.

Finally, the survey derives all of its information from a single question, which for this quarter was: “How do you anticipate total employment at your location to change in the three months to the end of September 2011 as compared to the current quarter?”
This free presentation will take place at the Des Plaines Campus, 1600 East Golf Road, and advance registration is required. Register at www.oakton.eventbrite.com. Questions? Contact Jeff Hitz at 847-635-2639 or jhitz@oakton.edu.
