"Gail's Weekly Chamber UPDATE"

Everyone has left town for spring break! Well, except for you and me! It’s like a ghost town – let me know if you have anything special going on this week during spring break for those still in town. I’m heading to Chico’s because their Friends & Family sale this week gives you 15% off your entire purchase if you mention this email – and the store is packed with new items for spring and summer!

Also, did you know the library will give you a museum pass for a week if you have a library card? Just check in at the Childrens Department. I got a pass for Brookfield Zoo so I’m taking my daughter, Lian, this week.
Women in Business Panel: Tips from Successful Women! The Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce held its monthly Women in Business networking meeting last Friday at the Park Ridge Nonprofit Center, 720 Garden Street.

A panel of three successful women moderated by Jay Crowley, real estate broker with Keller Williams, included Jo Ann Arnswald, MB Financial Bank; Lisa Smith, LNM Consulting; and Suzann Wilson, Beadphoria. Each woman discussed her favorite marketing tips, tools and suggestions; what worked and what didn't. Each agreed that great customer service, word of mouth referrals and their Chamber memberships contributed to their successes.

Usually a breakfast meeting, this one was a luncheon which was catered by Panino's Pizzeria who served Chicken Gorgonzola Salad, Chicken Walnut Salad, Pizzas, Assorted Desserts and Beverages. For catering information, call Panino's at 847.823.3450.

The event was filmed by Emmett Talkington, E&J Digital Media, who is making a Chamber video to post on the Chamber’s website. For information about digital media, call 847-983-4300, or visit www.eandadigitalmedia.com or email eanda@eandadigitalmedia.com. Last week Last Week Events:

• Business After Hours Networking at Global Handmade Hope last Thursday. What a fun event! Cynthia Glensgard is the owner and showed us all her lovely items from all around the world – fair trade items using no child or slave labor and she pays a living wage. I bought ear rings and bracelets made in Africa, a zebra stained bone spoon and Lian got a feathered dream catcher! She also had one of her talented ladies, Eleanor Riely, show us how to make a body sloughing mixture made up of Epsom salts, olive oil and essence of lavender and we all scrubbed our hands with it – it was lovely!

• Park Ridge Citizen Corps Council met again. The mission of Park Ridge Citizen Corps Council is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and to better prepare for, respond to, and recover from, the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds. Mike Luehr is the Chair; Bill Pretzer is the Vice-Chair; and I’m the Secretary.

• Health Care Forum also met. The Health Care Forum of the Park Ridge Chamber of Commerce, is a collaborative group of health and wellness professionals. The Forum provides health education and resources to empower a healthier community.

• Mega-Connect Multi-Chamber Networking Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Chicago in Northbrook. Although we had 4 members participate, there were over 250 from a dozen chambers or go. We always participate because it’s a benefit that doesn’t cost us anything and it allows more opportunities for Chamber members to network with other Chamber members. Not everything appeals to all members but we always get a few takers.
