March 3, 2011 Member Update

A Note From Gail

There is so much going on this weekend! I’m attending Beatles Night at the Community Church, and of course I’m seeing ‘Hamalot’ at Washington School for their 50th Anniversary!

If I could, I’d also attend the Paul Seiwert Foundation Dinner & Dance at the Country Club and the Library’s Architecture for the Ages Fundraiser, also on Saturday, but I’m already committed. And Lian has StageCoach and ice skating – our lives revolve around all our Chamber members!

Sad News Theresa Olson, Resurrection Health Care, and President-Elect of the Chamber, recently lost her father. Here are the details:

Jerry Milliner, father of Theresa Olson

St. Mary's Church
117 E. Edgar St, Paris, IL

Visitation -- 1 pm
Memorial Mass -- 2 pm
Graveside service -- to follow
Dinner to follow --
Tuscany's Italian Restaurant
1218 N. Main St. Paris IL

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Jerry's honor would be appreciated.

LIN-MAR Motors is moving! LIN-MAR Motors plans to celebrate its 53rd. year of business in Morton Grove in a new home at the northeast corner of Oakton and Austin.
LIN-MAR President, Ronald Lundin, closed on the property at 5940 Oakton on Monday, February 28th. Lundin said, “There are a number of advantages to the move. We will be able to use the space more efficiently for production purposes. Additionally, the new location will offer more convenient customer parking, and will be more energy efficient.”
Lundin predicts that the move will take about 2 months and said that the current location at 7860 N. Lehigh will remain open for business, as usual, during the transition.
He continued, “The equipment and materials we currently use are state of art and exceed EPA requirements. We will move them to the new shop and install the most advanced water born paint system in the interest of making our body shop green operation.”
“Of course, we plan a grand opening, which we expect to take place in June; the final date is yet to be announced. Like our open houses of past years, we will have entertainment, a car show, and lots of food and refreshments. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. It’s our way of saying thanks to the community.”

Business News from the Library Selling to Generation Y

Who is generation Y? They can be classified as people who have been born after the 1980’s who use extensive technology in their everyday lives. For this reason, Gen Y makes a much different type of consumer than Gen X before them. They have grown up in a culture of pure consumerism and see buying as a part of life. Their use of media makes for more opportunities to advertise and sell to them.

For more information on targeting your business toward this group of consumers, you might want to read some of these books available at the Park Ridge Public Library.

Money Smart Week programs coming in April!
Money Smart Week is April 2-9 this year and the library will be hosting two programs in conjunction with it on Tuesday April 5 and Wednesday April 6. More information will be in the March News For Businesses e-newsletter and the Library’s March/April newsletter of events.
Have YOU tried it yet?
You may have seen that the online catalog has a new look. It does! The new online catalog is easier to search and offers great new features like creating lists and posting reviews. Call the Reference Department at 847-720-3230 if you have any questions or if you want to learn more!
