Gail's Weekly Chamber UPDATE

Congratulations to our beautiful and smart Chamber president, Jackie Mathews, on graduating Summa Cum Laude (which means ‘with highest honors’) from North Park University in Organizational Management & Leadership.

Thank you to the Elks Lodge for hosting a fabulous luncheon last week – we thought it was going to be a steak sandwich but it was a big tender steak! Everything was delicious! http://www.elks.org/lodges/home.cfm?lodge=1526 They were happy to host us and are also looking for new members!

The gentleman from SCORE discussed the history of the group which is a part of the Small Business Administration. They’re retired executives who mentor businesses at no charge. www.score.org Jean Lempke and Nina Taluc, Kidwinks.com, have been using their services since they started their company and Jean spoke at the luncheon about how SCORE has helped them. Jean Fagan, Fundamental Connections, was also asked (impromptu – and did a great job!) to discuss her experiences with SCORE.

One of the many rewards of attending the monthly networking luncheons is that you get a chance to have your business card drawn to appear on the front of our paper newsletter in the ‘Spotlight’. So, the winner for the July issue is new member, Stef Nelson, Rodan + Fields Dermatologists!
Some of the prizes donated by and won by:
• 2 tickets to the ‘Home Sweet Home’ Rainbow Hospice Benefit won by Rick Pucci, Park Ridge Financial Advisors
• Fast-teks On-Site Computer Services Don Hallagan donated a gift certificate for 1 hour service and was won by Wilson Hogan, Country Financial
• $25 Chamber Gift Certificate was won by Tom Dombro, ING Advisors
• Change Anything by Vital Smarts (a book) was donated by Jean Fagan, Fundamental Connections, and won by Anna Wasyliw, Harris Bank
• Tech Stuff Gift Certificate donated by Jorge Garduno was won by Stef Nelson, Rodan + Fields Dermatologists
• One Park Ridge Matted Photo taken by the Maine South High School Photo Club for the Park Ridge Community Fund donated by the Chamber was won by Anna Wasyliw, Harris Bank

Also last week, the Entrepreneurial Knowledge Group, the Tech Forum, and Park Ridge Executive Network (PREN) 1 met.
These groups meet each month. You’re invited to attend at no charge. Please get involved!
The Chamber is looking for a new home.
Thank you to John Sasser for allowing us to be here in the Park Ridge Nonprofit Center for the past year and a half. We’ve loved being here.
We’re assessing all options so if you have any ideas for our next office, please let me know. I’m hoping for some hidden jewel at little or no cost will pop up and make us an offer we can’t refuse!
This week is the Chamber board meeting, the Retail Committee meeting, multi chamber networking breakfast, the Ambassador luncheon meeting, PREN 3, Health Care Forum special event, and Women in Business luncheon. These are all opportunities for networking – please take advantage of them.
Please see below for more information. Also note that some other bigger events’ dates are listed at the end for planning purposes.
If you have any connections with the following businesses and get them to join the Chamber (and they list you as the ‘referred by’ contact), then you’ll receive a Chamber gift certificate for $10! Word of mouth referrals are the best testament! I’d love to get the new Blue Fin Sushi Restaurant, Eggsperience, 5 Guys, Verizon, Brie, Natalie, Krisers, Poppy Blue, Carlo Sarlos, Andrew’s Open Pit. There are plenty more but I’ll start with these.
Why do you think businesses don’t join the Chamber?

In the new member packet of materials that is given to every new member, we include a list of Chamber benefits and then testimonials from Chamber members about those benefits. We need to update the testimonials.
If you have any testimonials about how any of these have benefitted your business, please email me your quote. We use your name and business when we quote you:
• Business After Hours; Monthly luncheons; Women in Business
• Referrals from the Chamber office
• Community Guide/Map
• Member to Member Discount Program
• Mailing Labels
• Chamber Website
• Canopies on Courtland business to consumer expo
• Chamber Newsletter
• Committees or Forums
• Golf Outing

Calling All Park Ridge Artists
Announcing a call for Park Ridge Artists—professional and amateur artists, photographers and designers—to participate in First Fridays Park Ridge kickoff event on June 3rd.
After a long, tough week, people want to have fun but don’t want to go to a lot of work to make it happen. The first Friday of every month starting June 3, “First Fridays” in Park Ridge offers an easy solution: A fun, themed evening with stores open late, special presentations and displays, and great deals from restaurants.
In honor of Park Ridge’s history as a famous art colony, the first “First Friday” event is “A Night of Art & Artists.” Guests can enjoy displays of your artworks throughout participating stores and restaurants, which will be open late.
To participate, contact Sheila Duda, Retail Committee Chairman, at (847) 823-8327 or email sduda@tealula.com.
