May 27, 2011 Member News

A Note From Gail

I’ve been out the last 2 days due to a family emergency so I’ll get to my 300 emails today! Luckily, there is nothing on the calendar for today so I can catch up.

I hope to see you Monday morning for the Memorial Day Parade. The Chamber is spot 36, by Roosevelt School and Walgreens. Jackie Mathews and I will be riding in the Camaro Convertible that Joe Bredemann is loaning us (I pick it up tomorrow!) while Rick Pucci drives! Marci and Dorothy will lead us with the Chamber’s banner. All the Chamber members will step in behind us – here’s who has let us know they’ll be there but if you wake up and have the urge to march in a parade, come on out and find us!

Lynnette’s School of Dance (they’ll dance the whole way!)
WineStyles
StageCoach Theatre Arts (my daughter, Lian, will be marching with them!)
Newcomers

And the Park Ridge Community Fund is spot 53 for those marching with them.

So, if you’re not IN the parade, then stand on the sidelines and cheer!

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for all the military men and women who gave their lives in the service of our great nation. Please send good thoughts and prayers to their families who miss them.

Annoying Habits at Work

Mark Twain once said that there is nothing more annoying than a good example, but in the workplace your annoying habits can be a bad example that stops your career cold.
In the workplace, rude behavior and incivility affect the bottom line. When employees feel uncomfortable at work, there is impaired individual performance and collectively impaired organizational performance.

We all have bad habits and may not be aware of them. Is a code of conduct the best way to stamp out these bad/criminal behaviors? There are no easy answers.
Check the link to the article on a workplaces top 10 annoying habits and then look through the books mentioned below to help your workplace prosper.

Norwood Crossing JUNE 15 TIMELY TALK AT NORWOOD CROSSING TO FOCUS ON

“CHARITABLE GIVING FROM YOUR IRA”
Are you currently taking required withdrawals from your IRA, thereby increasing your income and causing more of your Social Security benefits to be taxed? Are you worried about state or federal estate taxes eating into the retirement money you have saved for years? New federal legislation went into effect recently which allows some older donors to make charitable gifts directly from their IRAs, which is akin to “having your cake and eating it, too.” To learn more about whether you may benefit from incorporating charitable giving from your IRA into your financial planning, attend the free Timely Talk at 2:00 p.m., on June 15, at Norwood Crossing, 6016-20 N. Nina Ave. in Chicago. Free parking is available in the lot behind the building, entrance off Avondale Avenue.

The program will be presented by Terry Pasquale, a financial advisor. He will explain how these gifts can do “double duty,” allowing the donor to make a gift to charity while receiving tax benefits. A question and answer session will follow, and refreshments will be available. Please RSVP by calling (773) 577-5323.
