An estimated 20 to 60 million people in the United States have dry eye. Dry eye is a chronic and progressive condition.

8 Simple Ways to Increase Comfort if you have dry eye:
1. Use artificial tears on a schedule (i.e. breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed).
2. Limit caffeine intake.
3. Avoid drafts and fans blowing in your face.
4. Direct automobile air conditioning away from your face.
5. Use sunglasses outdoors in dry or windy conditions.
6. Position your computer monitor below eye level and take a quick break every 1/2 hour.
7. Drink plenty of water.
8. Avoid smoking and second-hand smoke.

If you are having problems with eye dryness, we can help develop a plan for you to help keep your eyes healthy and comfortable.

Additionally, I just wanted to thank all of you for helping Sarah! We were able to collect 118 pairs of glasses. The glasses were taken to the optometry school for the students to clean and some of these students will be gong to Haiti and Guatemala on mission trips to provide eye care and glasses for people who have never had glasses before. We are still collecting glasses for next year. You can drop them off at any time.

Understanding and Helping Grieving Children
Children can grieve deeply and still grow up to become people who are living happy, productive lives. This presentation by Anne Hatcher Berenberg, Ph.D, author of "10 Steps for Parenting Your Grieving Children,” is appropriate for both professionals and parents. She will discuss how to talk with children of various developmental levels about the loss of a loved one, enabling children to have their own clear story to help them deal with the death
and hold on to positive memories. She will explore the impact grieving children and parents can have on each other, considering the ways that children express grief and react to a parent’s grief. She will identify strategies for fostering strength and building resilience in grieving children and give practical insight into how to transform youngsters’ anxiety, pain, and anger into acceptance, self-esteem and love.
