Can you be a judge for DECA? Can you be a judge for DECA?

DECA is a high school extracurricular organization that is focused on business, marketing and entrepreneurship. Most of the area high schools have DECA chapters. On Tuesday, December 6th – area schools are holding an area competition at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont to get their students ready for competition at the state level. The schools need business people to serve as judges – as a judge, your time commitment would be 8AM until no later than 1PM. A continental breakfast will be served. Parking is free to DECA judges at the convention center.

As a DECA judge you will go through a role play situation with students. The students have 10 minutes to read and prepare for a role play situation around business. They then present their recommendations or ideas to you (the judge) who then also asks them some provided questions. When a student is done, you score that student and rank them against the other students you see. There is no preparation work required – you will be provided with a copy of the role play and have a chance to discuss with one of the event advisors that morning.

In the past judges have told us they appreciate the opportunity to give back to the community and help students with a true interest in business.

If you can be a judge, please email Dale Lasky at Maine East directly: dlasky@maine207.org

Note from Gail – this will be my 4th year judging this competition because I love it!

Petite Opera Show Schedule for Amahl and the Night Visitors Petite Opera performs "Amahl and the Night Visitors" Dec 2-11 and asks "Would you Like Even MORE Entertainment with That?"

Petite Opera Productions, Park Ridge's own professional opera company right in your backyard, presents the delightful family holiday classic, “Amahl and the Night Visitors” by Gian Carlo Menotti. Written in 1951 for NBC, this delightful opera, in English, follows the story and imagination of Amahl, a young crippled shepherd boy, as he sees the largest star in the sky. Three kings, following the star to Bethlehem, ask to stay the night with Amahl and his Mother, a poor widow. The kings lay out the gifts they have brought for the Messiah. The Mother is tempted to steal the gifts to care for crippled Amahl, but is instead touched by the wonders of the Christ child as told by the kings. Likewise, Amahl is so moved that he offers his crutch as a gift to the child, and a miracle occurs.

Each performance of “Amahl and the Night Visitors” is preceded by a special guest artist:
FRI Dec 2 at 7:30 PM with special guest Lutheran Choir of Chicago
SAT Dec 3at 2:00 PM with special guest The Great Frankini (musician)
SAT Dec 3 at 7:30 PM with special guest Musicke's Merrie Companions (recorder quintet)
