Weekly Chamber Update

From Gail,

Don’t forget to like us! www.facebook.com/parkridgechamber

Last night was the Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo Theatre! It was fantastic!

I’ve been asked to book ‘Jersey Boys’ – if I did, would you go? What other shows are you interested? When we did Billy Elliot last year, we had over 100 people but we really only need as little as 15 or 20 in order to qualify for the group rates.

This week is our luncheon at Outback Steakhouse on Wednesday, our Tech Forum about Twitter on Thursday, and on Saturday is the Electronics Recycling Day.

Holiday Lights Can you donate money for the lights so they can be strung up in Park Ridge? It will be very sad if there are no festive holiday lights in the trees.

We’re estimating the cost at about $5,000 for the cost of the lights so if just 200 Chamber members each donated $25, we’d easily have it!
Just in from Mayor Schmidt:
I learned late last Friday that I will be one of three local mayors speaking at a press conference being held by the Northwest Municipal Conference at the State of Illinois Building on the issue of Com Ed's performance this summer. Please be advised that the specific topic will focus on health and safety issues caused by Com Ed's lack of response. Inconvenience and economic loss, while very important, will not be addressed at the press conference.

The press conference is tomorrow morning. I am trying to gather as much information as possible about how the outages endangered the health and safety of our residents, such as live wires or a power loss to a medical device If any of you experienced a health or safety issue, or know someone who did, I would greatly appreciate it if you would provide me with details before the end of this evening. I want to be able to share those stories with the press and other elected officials who will be in attendance tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.
Passport to Park Ridge last Friday First Friday of October was 'Passport to Park Ridge' and included an Amazing Race with 23 merchants participating. Clever clues, some hard and some easy, were passed out to 51 teams in front of the library. The clues scattered race participants througout Park Ridge's shopping areas from Uptown to South Park to Village Green. Five groups came back to the Library at the end to report they visited all 23 businesses. Raffle tickets were handed out as racers figured out the clues. All raffle tickets will be entered into a drawing to announce the winner of a huge gift basket filled with more than $200 in prizes from all the merchants and the Chamber of Commerce.

The first team to come in with their passport stamped from all 23 merchants was John Valin and his mother, Barbara, who said, "This was the most fun we've had in Park Ridge in a very long time!" Lisa Maskala Streff said, "Nice work with the "Amazing Race". We had a good time and went into some businesses that we didn't even know about."

After the race ended at 8 p.m., a campfire-style sing-along in front of the library was led by Jerrod Skiba from Allegro Music Center with chocolate covered marshmallows provided by Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory.

AutumnFest, sponsored by the Park Ridge Chamber's Retail Committee and the Library, kicked off with a Pet Parade with Mayor Dave Schmidt leading the parade with his 15 year old Maltese, Miabella. About 40 families and their pets, kids and stuffed animals came out to enjoy the warm Indian Summer day and march in the parade around the library grounds. Dogs dressed up as a lobster, headless horseman, devil and more also proudly sported their costumes. The mood was festive and Mayor Dave reminded the crowd to shop locally and keep their money in Park Ridge.

After the Pet Parade, families brought their old clothes to stuff with hay for scarecrows. Smaller children enjoyed the musical haybales.
